Annual Mission Community Health Fair Set For January 6

For the 12th consecutive year, Mission Regional Medical Center will be offering area residents an opportunity to receive a variety of health screenings.

The annual Mission Community Health Fair is set for Saturday, January 6, at Mission High School's Neuhaus Gymnasium, 1801 East Cleo Dawson. Hours for the fair are 8 a.m. to noon.

At last year's fair, an estimated 3,000 persons took advantage of the opportunity to receive the check-ups, according to Arlene Rivera of the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce, one of the four sponsors.

The other sponsors are Mission Regional Medical Center, the City of Mission and the Mission Consolidated Independent School District.

Admission to the fair is free and so are basic blood chemistry screenings and prostate cancer screenings for men over 40 years of age which will be conducted by Mission Regional.

Rivera said the first 500 persons arriving at the fair will receive free wellness screenings.

There also will be screenings for glaucoma/vision, dental care and more. Those receiving blood screenings are required to fast for 12 hours prior to the testing.

Numerous health care professionals - physicians, pharmacists and others who provide medical services - will take part in conducting the fair and in providing the latest healthcare information.
