Palmhurst Looking To Expand Offices
By David Rodriguez
In a regular meeting of the Palmhurst board of aldermen on February 20, an item was discussed by the Board and City Manager Joe Garza that would authorize Garza to purchase an undisclosed tract of land to expand on the city's office space.
Although the item discussion was not open to the public but rather brought up in executive session, Garza explained the purpose after the meeting.
"We really need the space now," said Garza. "We need to buy a piece of property now before the whole area is developed. If we wait too long, we might have to go out to Moore Air Base. One of the concerns we have is that we can't hire any more people because we don't have any space."
The city is currently looking at three different plots of land. One is 30 acres and the other two are 10 acres each.
Development is currently the main theme in Palmhurst who is in final talks with Home Depot for their new location, which is slated to be completed by February 2008.
Also coming to the area is a new Mission CISD middle school set to be built on the corner of Mile Four Rd. and Stewart Road.
According to Garza the city has yet to see a final blueprint but construction is set to begin in April with the doors opening to students in September 2008.
