Alton and county continue construction contract
Hidalgo County has agreed to enter into a renewed agreement with the City of Alton for a road construction project that has gone past deadline.
Five months ago Hidalgo County and Alton entered into an interlocal cooperation agreement in which both agreed to work together to make improvements to Trosper Road between Mile 4 Road and Mile 5 Road within the city limits of Alton. In the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court Meeting July 3 the county acknowledged that the project had, "due to unforeseen circumstances" gone beyond the time frame provided by the initial agreement and a new agreement was necessary to replace the expired contract.
According to the contract the county agrees to assist Alton in completing the work by providing the necessary labor, equipment and materials for a new overlay of the road while Alton agrees to provide all striping and reflectors for the road in an amount not to exceed $2,235.
Following the completion of the work Alton will be responsible for the maintenance of the road so long as the road remains within its city limits.
In the same meeting the court also agreed to amend another contract.
The State of Texas and Hidalgo County had executed an agreement in September 2002 to construct access roads in the county’s colonias under terms of the first call of the Border Colonia Access Program.
The amended contract will be identical to the initial contract except for the amendment of Article 9, Item c, which will now read, "Project is not let within six years of the original execution of this agreement or the project is not completed within seven years of the original execution of this agreement." This, in effect, will give the State and the County more time to complete the first round of colonia projects in the county.
