LJISD Investigating Bus Incident

The La Joya ISD Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred where a student from E.B. Reyna Elementary school was dropped off at the wrong bus stop at the end of the school day.

La Joya ISD Police Department along with administrators from the Transportation Department met with the parent of the student at 9 a.m. today along with the bus driver to address what exactly happened that caused this incident to occur. Based on the meeting, the school district knows that the student did not get on the right bus and that he was supposed to be dropped off at a day care center located near to the school.

Originally the parent had understood that Bus #18 would take her son to a nearby day care center and that is where she wanted her son to be dropped off. She had indicated on paper that her son should ride on Bus #18. However, Bus #86 was the bus designated to go to the nearby day care center. Once the school found out the child had gotten on the wrong bus, they notified the Transportation Department to dispatch a message to the bus driver so that he would not drop off the student at that bus stop. However, because the driver’s radio was not working properly, the driver did not receive the message on time.

The school is having their staff ride on all bus routes for today to avoid a future incident like this from occurring. The parent has decided that for now she will be taking her son to and from school. The district apologized to her for the miscommunication and the La Joya ISD Police Department will continue with its investigation.
