Citizen’s award winners to be named at banquet
Mr. Mission, First Lady of Mission and the Man of the Year and Woman of the Year award winners will be named at the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet on October 16 at Mario’s Banquet and Conference Center.
The Man and Woman of the Year awards, sponsored by the Progress Times and voted on by previous award winners, are given yearly to Mission residents who have shown superior service for a significant project or continuing broad service to the community in the past two to 10 years. Mr. Mission and First Lady of Mission awards are given to those Mission residents who have provided long-term service to Mission through civic, church or a professional endeavor that has worked to serve the community.
The Chamber will also be giving out their own awards at the banquet. The Business of the Year and Businessperson of the Year will be named at the banquet which will feature Theresa Rico, a traditional mariachi singer from Corpus Christi.
The purpose of the annual banquet, which is expecting 400 guests, is to install new chamber officers and board members and to facilitate a meeting of the membership .
The chamber will also be honoring their 2006-2007 retiring directors Keith Moore from Edward D. Jones Investments and Robert Norman of Texas State Bank as well as welcoming their incoming board members Dr. David Hernandez of Woman’s Health Services, Ivan Nava of Bert Ogden Mazda and Raul "Raulito" Pena of the Pena Eye Institute.
The banquet starts at 6 p.m. with dinner being served at 7 p.m.
