Kino Flores' worker flees to Mexico
By David Rodriguez
A suspected illegal immigrant, Froylen Casares, 24, continues to elude police after allegedly beating a man to death with a bat Monday morning on a ranch owned by State Representative Kino Flores near the intersection of North Trosper and Yukon Road.
Police say Casares, who had been hired by Flores, fled the scene before they arrived. Flores has admitted to hiring Casares without checking his background.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said Casares made a phone call to his sister where he admitted to killing Adin Jaret Rodriguez on Flores’ ranch. Soon after, Casares was seen crossing the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge before boarding a bus headed to Monterrey then changing buses and heading to Mexico City. Mexican authorities are currently working in conjunction with the Hidalgo County authorities in tracking Casares.
Although Representative Flores has said he did not check the background of Casares, it is unlikely he will be facing charges for hiring the illegal immigrant.
Sheriff Trevino has said Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) makes the decisions on what matters they decide to pursue . Although the federal agency does have the authority to charge Flores for hiring Casares, there is a policy of priority that directs ICE to place large employers of illegal immigrants at the top of the list.
“ICE is aware of the situation and it is now up to them to decide if this is something they want to do something about,” said Trevino. “But they have been made aware.”
