Hurricane blows footbal schedule

Friday night lights are being moved. A slate of games have been shuffled to avoid any unnecessary problems with impending Hurricane Ike. The hurricane is expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday somewhere along the Texas coast. Although projections show the storm coming in north of the Valley, local high schools are taking no chances with their teams and fans. As of press time, these were the latest schedule changes.

Sharyland High School’s football game against Edinburg High School has been moved up a day to Thursday, September 11 at 7:30 at Sharyland Rattler Stadium.

The Veterans Memorial High School varsity football game in Alice was moved to Thursday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. Should the field in Alice suffer too much water damage from Hurricane Ike, the game may be moved to Tom Landry Stadium.

This week’s Mission High School varsity football game at the PSJA stadium against PSJA Memorial was moved to Thursday, September 11. All sub-varsity football games for both Mission CISD high schools have been cancelled for this week.

All three La Joya high schools had their games moved up a day. The Coyote’s game against the Edinburg North Cougars, at Cats Stadium in Edinburg, and the Huskies versus Lobos inter-district match-up at La Joya stadium were re-scheduled for Thursday, September 11.
