The Rio Grande Valley Wing of the Commemorative Air Force will hold its annual air show in the skies above Brownsville this Saturday and Sunday, March 24 to 25. Planes from the eras of World War II and Vietnam will be part of this year’s air acrobatics at the Brownsville Airport. An estimated 5000 to 10,000 people attend the show annually.

From the World War II era, a P-5T fighter, Wildcat fighter, B-25 Bomber, AT-6 trainer, PT-17 Trainer, PT-22 Trainer, and a PT- 26 Trainer are part of the show’s line-up. Vietnam era plans will include an A-1 Skyraider, a Hughy Helicopter, a Cessna 0-2, Cessna L-19, an A-26 Bomber and a Russian Mig.

WELSACO — The Weslaco Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a talent showcase at this year’s Texas Onion Fest, to be held at the Weslaco City Park on March 24-25.

Valley musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, or any other family-friendly talent acts are in invited to participate. Preliminary performance time is limited to three minutes.

The talent showcase will begin with preliminary competition at the city’s downtown jazz and art event on Thursday, March 22, at 5 p.m. From there, finalists will be chosen to perform at Texas Onion Fest on Sunday, March 25, on the Magic Valley Electric Co-Op Main Stage.

McALLEN — South Texas College’s Technology Campus Library presents “The Girl by the Sea: Enchanted Storytelling in the Digital Age,” an exhibit featuring the writing and digital illustrations of Robert Gilbert. The exhibit is on view now through Friday, May 11, at the college’s Technology Campus Library, 3700 W. Military Hwy. in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public.

Gilbert embarked on creating a children’s book made solely with his mind and his computer entitled, “The Girl by the Sea.” The work reveals a playful, colorful world, with simple, yet bold imagery, where the main character lives with nature and enjoys a freedom that is untainted.

MERCEDES — Award winning country music vocalist Chris Young headlines tonight, March 9, at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo in Mercedes.  The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the rodeo arena with opening act Two Tons of Steel.

It’s all part of a line-up of quality entertainment, events and exhibits with that down home feel only the 73rd Annual RGV Livestock Show and Rodeo can give.  It’s a great way to spend Spring Break with the family and runs through March 19

Young is the 2012 ACM nominee for Male Vocalist of the Year and Single Record of the Year for “Tomorrow,” and is the current American Country Award winner for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for “Voices.”
