Cirque due Soleil makes another appearance at State Farm Arena on March 14 through 18.  This time they are bringing their signature production “Dralion”™ to the Valley.

The troupe’s dramatic aerial dances and floor work promise an evening of drama featuring 50 international acrobats, gymnasts, musicians and singers.  The name is derived from the dragon, symbolizing the East, and the lion, symbolizing the West.

The strength and agility of Cirque performers takes on the feel of a ballet with the aerial hoop and the Pas de Deux, an intertwined couple as they fly over the stage held aloft by a band of cloth.  The action never stops as the evening flows with the Bamboo Poles, Dralion dragon and lion dances, hand balancing, and hoop diving.

It’s a British invasion at this year’s BorderFest, Hidalgo’s international festival extravaganza, marking its 36th year of music, entertainment, food and fun. It’s all happening on the grounds of State Farm Arena in Hidalgo from Thursday, March 1, through Sunday, March 4, the regal history and heritage of England will be the colorful backdrop for this year’s celebration.

The invasion comes complete with a double decker bus, the clock towers and a castle in the England Square, complete with palace guards and a possible royal sighting.  Street entertainers, lighted night parades, nationally-known performers every night on the Arena stage will keep the show going. Over 100 groups to suit every taste will be performing on 20 stages and entertainment areas.

HIDALGO – For all Clay Walker and Josh Thompson fans, it will be an intimate evening of good music and good times on Friday, March 1, at the State Farm Pavilion during BorderFest.  Thompson will open for Walker, who will also perform a full-length set with a full band in an acoustic setting.

For those with tickets to the show inside of State Farm Arena, the transition from one location to another will be a smooth one—all tickets will be honored at the State Farm Pavilion, and seating will be comparable in scale and proportion.

Price level one tickets ($49.75) will still have prime seating, with locations Floor 1 first 7 rows and price level two tickets $39.75 will be seated Floor 1 rows 8-15 and will be attended to by wait staff for further convenience. All $19.75 tickets will be issued a general admission ticket into the BorderFest grounds that will give access to the Clay Walker performance. Concert tickets include admission into BorderFest, but do not include parking fee.

McALLEN — Writers in Literary Discussion (WILD) is sponsoring a film contest to culminate in a screening of selected productions on April 12 at the South Texas College Pecan Campus.

To submit a film, it must be no longer than 30 minutes, but there is no minimum length. It must have a plot, include a title and credits, and not include the use of any copyrighted materials such as music. It should be submitted by April 3 to Tom Fuschetto in Room J-3.1112 at STC.
