20120420_Web Story Image_midwest_rock_expressHIDALGO – What happens with three rock and roll power houses come together under one roof? State Farm Arena may never be the same when REO Speedwagon, Styx and Ted Nugent rock the stage, the walls and maybe loosen a few bolts on the roof Tuesday, May 1, for “The Midwest Rock ‘n Roll Express.” It’s part of their 30-date 2012 U.S. The performance starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6.

In a pre-tour media blast, Styx Guitarist/singer James “JY” Young said, “Forget all those TV shows with glee clubs singing Rock songs. It’s time for mega-Platinum Illinois bands STYX and REO Speedwagon in a battle to the end of the Maya Caledar with the Motor City Madman!”

Curandero author to speak at MOSTH

EDINBURG – On Sunday, April 15, the Museum of South Texas History hosts author and curandero (healer), Alberto Salinas Jr., as he presents “Conversations with a Curandero Border Healer” starting at 2 p.m. The program is included in the fee for regular museum admission. MOSTH is located at 200 N. Closner Blvd. in downtown Edinburg.

His traditional healing practices stem from his childhood, culture, and connection to the legendary Mexican folk healer El Niño Fidencio. Growing up in the small South Texas town of Raymondville, during the 1950s, Salinas was exposed to a region in the midst of change. However, Salinas, like many, was raised in a spiritually traditional family who sought the advice and healing powers of curanderos.

Princesses ‘Dare to Dream’ with Disney on Ice

20120406_DIsney_on_iceHIDALGO – The always popular Disney on Ice presents “Dare to Dream” at State Farm Arena April 18 through 22.  Everyone’s favorite princesses will be found on the ice with the hope and triumph found in their timeless fairytale classics.

Rapunzel, Flynn and Maximus take their “Tangled” escapade to new heights.  From “The Princess and the Frog,” Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen’s musical journey to a Bayou beat begins with a fateful kiss.  The glass slipper fits once again as Cinderella finds her Prince Charming.  Just when the audience thinks the “Once upon a time” stories are over, they all come together for the “Happily ever after” grand finale.  No princess story is complete without the music, pageantry, color, and grandeur befitting their station, and Disney isn’t Disney without Mickey, Minnie and Goofy making a special appearance.
