Comedian Pablo Francisco performance is July 12

20130628 pablo franciscoSelling to sold-out audiences, comedian Pablo Franscico’s fan base is growing—for one reason—talent. He’s bringing his latest show, “The Movie Trailer Guy,” to the Rio Grande Valley audiences on Friday, July 12. It will be at the McAllen Civic Center auditorium at 1300 S. 10th. The show begins at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7 p.m.

His talents have become a favorite of U.S. audiences in college and concert venues across the country. His line-up of credits has included a one-hour special on Comedy Central, one of their most requested, as well as appearances with Jay Leno, Comedy Central’s “The Show Biz Show,” Howard Stern’s radio talk show and as a cast member on “Mad TV” and “Frank TV.”

Last fall, in a European tour, he performed to a sold-out crowd at the Milky Way in Amsterdam and the Troxy in London and performed at the Australia Comedy Festival last spring. He’s currently working on a new one-hour Comedy Central special this year.

Josh Abbott Band comes to Mission June 26

20130621 JoshAbbottBandThe Josh Abbott only arrived on the country music scene in 2006, but took to the stage like seasoned professionals quickly building the accolades and a fan base to match.

The band arrives at Las Palmas Race Park in Mission for a performance next Wednesday, June 26, with gates opening at 7 p.m.

Lubbock-based Josh Abbott was in a grad school program at Texas Tech in Lubbock when his path made a drastic turn and passion turned into dream career. He had picked up the guitar a few years earlier to strum along with his favorite country artists' songs, but the vision for his new career path came into focus in 2004 at a Randy Rogers concert when the desire hit to begin writing and playing his own music.

Drama camp registration underway

The-ArtsRegistration is underway for a new two-week session of “Summer Drama Camp for Kids” for ages 5 to 12 and “English Immersion through Theater” for adults. Dates are on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, June 17 to 19 and June 24 to 25 with a performance and celebration on June 26. The public is invited to the final performance.

Both classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. for the youth class and 11:30 for adults. Registration and all classes and performances are held at the Pharr Community Theater’s new location at Carnahan School, 317 W. Gore in Pharr. Cost is $35 for each two-week session. No prior theater experience is required for either class.

Youth artist camp summer registration opens

WESLACO – The Weslaco Museum at 500 S. Texas Blvd. will hold a summer camp for young artists ages 10 through 17 throughout the months of June and July. and classes begin on Tuesday, June 18, and run through July 19. Classes will be held Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

All classes will be taught by a professional artist, and participants will explore a variety of different mediums such as acrylic paint, pencil and charcoal as well as learn new techniques they can implement in their artwork.

STLO to perform ‘Pagliacci’ June 8-9

South Texas Lyric Opera presents “Pagliacci,”a fully staged opera with an international cast, STLO Chorus, live orchestra, and a children’s choir under the artistic direction of Maestro Mazias de Oliveira. Performances will take place at the Edinburg City Auditorium on Saturday, June 8, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m.

“Pagliacci” is one of the top 20 most performed operas of all time and a favorite among opera enthusiasts, one hour in length and performed in Italian with subtitles in English. The production is replete with the themes of love and betrayal, and film enthusiasts will recognize music that has been featured in a long line of classic Italian cinema.
