20120224_Estudiantina_Guadalupana022It’s a British invasion at this year’s BorderFest, Hidalgo’s international festival extravaganza, marking its 36th year of music, entertainment, food and fun. It’s all happening on the grounds of State Farm Arena in Hidalgo from Thursday, March 1, through Sunday, March 4, the regal history and heritage of England will be the colorful backdrop for this year’s celebration.

The invasion comes complete with a double decker bus, the clock towers and a castle in the England Square, complete with palace guards and a possible royal sighting.  Street entertainers, lighted night parades, nationally-known performers every night on the Arena stage will keep the show going. Over 100 groups to suit every taste will be performing on 20 stages and entertainment areas.

This year’s headliners and performance dates:

  • Demi Lovato with Shane Harper in State Farm Arena, Sunday, March 4,
  • Country Music Star Clay Walker and Josh Thompson in State Farm Arena, Friday, March 1,
  • Charo, America’s Cuchi Cuchi Gal and award winning Flamenco guitarist, in the Pavilion Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4,
  • The Budweiser Grande Parade, Saturday, March 3, at 10 a.m., and
  • Nightly illuminated parades, Friday, March 2, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 3, at 6 p.m.; and Sunday, March 4, at 7 p.m.

    • Herederos de Nuevo Leon, Zinzerro, Friday, March 2,
    • Traileros del Norte, Nando y los Soldja Kings, Diana Reyes & La Sonora de Anaidita, Saturday Night, March 3,
    • Ramon Ayala, Invasores de Nuevo Leon, Los Tigrillos, Siggno Nexxo, Sunday Night, March 4,
    • Tribute bands including Ozzy Osborne, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Elton John and The Beatles, and
    • Media Culinary Challenge

      Visit the HEB Health and Wellness Pavilion, enjoy the strolling acts of Rocking Rick, Spoonman Jim Cruise, and the Chain Gang, or take time out for the Wild About Monkeys and High Dive and Gymnastics Shows.

      Stop by to learn new cooking tricks at Cocina Kraft, and take the kids over to see what’s going on in their own HEBuddy and Friends Kids Club activity area. BorderFest favorites are returning: Estudiantina Guadalupana of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, the hilarity of ventriloquist Eric Kand, and scores of bands playing everything from rock and country, to tejano, norteño, and pop.

      Gate fee for Borderfest is $12 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under and toddlers are free  on Thursday and Friday.  Tickets are $10 for adults on Saturday and Sunday before 4 p.m. and $12 after and $5 for children under 10.  Toddlers are free throughout the event.  Save and buy in advance to get a two-day super pass for $13, available at Stripes stores and participating Dairy Queens.
