‘Cha-cha-la-ca Mornings’ get down and dirty

20130524 Cha-cha-la-ca MorningsEvery Wednesday and Saturday morning, from 8 to 11a.m., Quinta Mazatlan World Birding Center welcomes volunteers who enjoy getting their hands in the dirty, whether they are students needing hours for school credits or someone who wants to learn about native plants.

Projects include bird feeding, watering gardens, weeding, planting shrubs and trees, trail maintenance, trail building, invasive plant removal, cleaning and more. Volunteers will learn about South Texas plants and wildlife and spend time with other volunteers while making a difference for wildlife and the visitors to Quinta Mazatlan.

Cha-cha-la-ca Mornings will begin Saturday, June 1, and will run every Saturday and Wednesday through August. First-time volunteers need to arrive early to fill out a volunteer form.

Church, youth, school and civic groups are encouraged to participate. Anyone bringing a large group is asked to contact Christine Williams at 681-3373 in advance so the nature center can prepare accordingly.

Volunteers should wear long pants, tennis shoes, clothes they don’t mind getting dirty, gloves, hat, sunscreen and bug spray. Volunteers that complete 40 hours from June through August will receive a special appreciation gift.

Quinta Mazatlan is located at 600 Sunset in McAllen. For more information, call 681-3370 or visit www.quintamazatlan.com.
