Juan Diego Academy, the Valley’s newest Catholic high school, is hosting their third annual gala, “A Night of Glitz and Glamour,” on Saturday, Nov. 2. It’s taking place at the JDA campus located at 5208 South FM 494, which is on the grounds of the old Novitiate south of Mission. The reception begins at 6 p.m., with the dinner following at 7 p.m.
A major fundraiser for the school, proceeds will be used to build more classrooms for the campus. The fledgling high school is now in its third year, also. It began with a freshman class of 19 students—now 21— and, each year, a new class has been added. JDA now has 77 students in three grade levels. In 2015, that first group of ninth graders becomes the first graduating class.
The Junior Class will perform a “Roaring 20s” dance as part of the evening’s entertainment, and a saxophonist will provide music throughout the dinner hour. A DJ and a jazz band round out the rest of the musical program.
An “Art Walk” features paintings donated by local artists and will be part of the silent auction items. Live auction items range from a Chihuahua puppy to hunting and vacation trips to contributions from each of the classes working on a project to submit for the fundraiser. The freshmen are donating a St. Francis garden, complete with statue, flowers and their labor to plant the garden. The sophomores have built a folding picnic bench table embellished with the school mascot for their project, and the juniors have put together a fleece blanket with pictures of the class on it.
Ticket prices are $100 per person; seating is eight per table. Donor sponsorships are available in four categories: Platinum, $5000; Gold, $2500; Silver, $1500; and Bronze, $500. Depending on the category, different levels of reserved seating and recognition are part of the donors’ packages.
