MISSION, June 13, 2013 – “Our search efforts continue,” said Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez as a multi-agency command center was setting up at 2 Mile and Los Ebanos Roads today to coordinate search efforts for missing 70-year-old Modesto de la Rosa.
De la Rosa was last seen nearby at 2 Mile and Inspiration Road Saturday. Mission Police Department issued a missing persons report for de la Rosa earlier this week.
Today, MPD was joined by Mission Fire Department (MFD), the Department of Public Safety, county, emergency management personnel and other law enforcement agencies, to coordinate their search effort for De la Rosa. Tips have led MPD to concentrate their search around 2 Mile and Los Ebanos.
Dominguez said their search might take them a bit north of the area as some reports place De la Rosa further north and even as far east as Bryan Road. They might search as far south as the Edinburg Canal area as well.
Today’s search will continue until 8 p.m., and the search could continue for days depending on today’s search results.
It’s a long and tedious task, said Dominguez, but we are trying to help a fellow human being and hopefully get him back safely.
MFD’s dive team is also assisting with searching the canals in the area because a caller did state they saw De la Rosa close to the canal just east of 2 Mile and Los Ebanos.
Other agencies arrived with four wheelers and horses to aid in the search.
The search crews will be stationed out of Mission Fire Department’s mobile medical unit, a large tent structure, on the northeast corner of the intersection. The police department mobile command center is also being used.
Family members last saw De la Rosa Saturday evening after visiting his daughter’s house at 2 Mile and Inspiration. He has high blood pressure and diabetes. He was known to walk quite often.
“With the hot days that we have been having,” said Dominguez. “It’s probably having a toll on this man… Hopefully we will find him today,” he continued. We are not losing hope, because we have had calls and reports.
De La Rosa is 5’7” tall, weighs 150 pounds, is bald on top with white hair on sides, and has brown eyes. He lives on the 1500 block of Doherty Ave in Mission.
If you have seen De La Rosa or know about his whereabouts, contact Mission Crime Stoppers at 581-8477 or contact Investigator Arturo Flores at 584-5000.
