It’s not too early or too late to get tickets for ¡Fandango! 2011, the Museum of South Texas History’s major fundraising event. This year’s event is a tribute to South Padre Island and the role it has played in the region’s history and heritage and will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. MOSTH trustees Kellye Ortega and Shelley Richards are serving as co-chairmen for the event.
¡Fandango! will be filled with island flavor with a surf and turf dinner and hues of blue. Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m. while bidding on the Sand Bucket drawings and blackboard and tabletop auctions. Texas beef and Gulf shrimp with a variety of side dishes will be served when the buffet opens at 7:45 p.m. During the dinner, the Big Tent live auction begins.
The Sand Buckets offer a variety of gift certificates for dining, dry-cleaning, shopping, and more. The three “Muy Grande” buckets live up to their name with three special prizes: an iPad 2, a Cannon Rebel camera, and a $500 Gift Certificate from H-E-B. Bidders need not be present to win; purchase Sand Bucket tickets by calling the museum office with a credit card. Muy Grande tickets are $25 each. All other Sand Bucket tickets are six for $25. All museum members who purchase a ticket to ¡Fandango! will receive a free ticket to be placed in the H-E-B bucket drawing. A new drawing this year is the “Luck of the Draw,” a chance to win any of live auction items in numbers 401-421! Only 100 of these tickets will be sold for $100 each, and the drawing will take place just before the Live Auction begins. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are being sold by the board of trustees before the event rather than at the event.
The auctions include a wide array of art pieces, home and garden items, hunting and fishing trips and equipment, vacation trips, jewelry, children’s items, and more.
Go to www.mosthistory.org to see a list of auction items or for more information.
Tickets for ¡Fandango! are $100 per person. There are a limited number of reserved tables for 10 persons available for $1,000. Call 383-6911 for more information or tickets.
