Apply for free aid at College Goal Sunday at both South Texas College and The University of Texas-Pan American. Whether a first-time student, already in college or thinking of returning to college free financial aid opportunities are available for those who qualify. The event will be held at both campuses on Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
Assistance at STC, 3201 West Pecan Blvd. in McAllen, will be available the Student Services Building. Private counseling areas and computers will be available for applicant use and attendants will be available to assist in both English and Spanish.
Applicants must bring in a 2011 income tax return (parent or spouse returns will be required), social security card, a state issued ID, driver’s license or resident alien card and proof of other income benefits (TANF, SSI, etc.). For those planning to attend classes during summer 2012, applicants must also provide a 2010 income tax return. For additional information about financial aid opportunities at STC call 956-872-8311.
Assistance at UTPA will be available in the Visitor’s Center and Express Lab. Parents and students should bring their latest tax information for 2011 and/or their last pay stub from all employers. If a student doesn’t have this information, FAFSA allows families to estimate financial information, which can be corrected after their taxes have been completed. Taxes do not have to be filed with the IRS by the time of the event.
Several UTPA scholarship drawings will be held, and CGS will offer a $250 scholarship toward a student’s college textbooks. Door prizes will also be made available. For more information, call 956-665-7562.
