The 70th Annual Pigskin Jubilee Region XV University Interscholastic League (UIL) Marching Band Contest will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at the McAllen Memorial Stadium beginning at 4 p.m.
Acting UIL Executive Secretary Oralia Gonzalez said high schools from Alamo to Roma will be participating in the event, a total of 22 marching bands.
The schedule for La Joya, Mission and Sharyland school districts is as follows:
- Veterans Memorial High School: 4:45 p.m.
- Mission High School: 5:15 p.m.
- Sharyland High School: 6 p.m.
- Juarez- Lincoln High School: 6:30 p.m.
- Palmview High School: 8 p.m.
- La Joya High School: 9 p.m.
Bands that earn a “one” rating will advance to the Area Marching Band Contest held in Laredo on Oct. 27. Groups who advance from the Area Marching Band Contest to the State Marching Band Contest will compete at the Alamodome on Nov. 5-6.
“At the Area level there are more judges and a more complex judging system,” Gonzalez said. “Those judges rank them and only so many get to go to the state level…even if they have all earned a one.”
Gonzalez said there would also be a special performance from the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelina Marching Band.
There are 6,600 seats at the McAllen Memorial Stadium; Gonzalez says there are close to 400 seats still available. Reserved seating is on the west (home) side of the stadium, while the east side will have tickets available for $5.
Gonzalez added there are still reserved seats available; all tickets will be on sale for purchase at 3p.m. on Oct. 20 at the McAllen Memorial Stadium.
All ticket sales benefit the UIL, while all products sold at the concession stands will go to the band booster clubs affiliated with the McAllen Independent School District.
Gonzalez said any signs; noisemakers, horns, outdoor food or drink is prohibited at the event, along with any other items that detract from the performance. Coolers and balloons are also prohibited from the McAllen Memorial Stadium. For more information on the event visit www.uilmusic15.com.blog comments powered by Disqus
