Friday, Nov. 2 day is the last day of early voting for the 2012 General Election in Texas. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
To help voters cast an informed vote, the Progress Times has posted online the Voters Guide, published by the non-partisan League of Women Voters of Texas. Readers can view or print this guide here.
Included in the Voters Guide are candidates for US President, statewide offices, regional Courts of Appeal and State Board of Education.
Readers may also enter their address at the League of Women Voters website www.VOTE411.org to view national and statewide races and positions of candidates for those races. This site also displays the reader’s polling location address and map.
Texas consistently ranks among the lowest states in eligible voter turnout. LWV-TX is committed to making a difference by providing easily accessible candidate and voting information.
"By inviting candidates from all in contested races to address some of today's toughest issues and including their unedited responses, we help Texas voters really get to know their candidates," says Linda Krefting, President of LWV-TX. "LWV-TX invites candidates from all political parties and does not support or oppose any candidate or political party," she adds.
When you head to vote, remember to take your voter registration certificate or other acceptable identification. Photo identification is not required, however, some form of identification is required for those who do not present their voter registration certificate. Acceptable identification includes a driver’s license, personal identification card issued by the Department of Public Safety, birth certificate, passport, official mail addressed to you from a governmental entity or other government document that shows your name and address. Also, a utility bill, bank statement or paycheck that shows your name and address.
The list of acceptable IDs can be found at www.lwvtexas.org.
