Learn to create an outdoor habitat for birds and butterflies in the "Backyard Habitat Steward" series at Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen. The series runs from Feb 4 to March 19 every Tuesday morning from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The series features experts in the Valley leading walks, giving talks and directing hands-on projects.

The program line-up includes Mike Heep offering advice on the best native plants for backyards; a tree walk through the woods with Mark Kroeze, the City of McAllen's urban forester; attracting wildlife to yards with plants and feeders by Christine Williams, park naturalist at Quinta Mazatlan; butterfly gardening with Mary Thorne, author of Caterpillar Caregiver; green gardening and healthy soil with Roy Custodio from McAllen’s composting center; water features in garden design with Allen Williams; and, finally, local experts providing ideas for each participant’s backyard.
