The University of Texas-Pan American Coastal Studies Lab will offer a two-day professional development teacher workshop Feb. 22 to 23 focused on the Arroyo Colorado. It will be presented in partnership with Sea Grant Texas, the SPI Birding and Nature Center and the Arroyo Colorado Partnership.

The workshop, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, will be held at the Coastal Studies Lab located at Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island.

Attendees will participate in site visits to the SPI Birding and Nature Center and the SPI Water Treatment Facility. They will also learn from hands-on activities of building their own watershed, water testing and bacteria culturing.

Teachers completing the workshop will earn 12 professional development hours and receive an $80 stipend for Saturday, Feb. 23. Participants' schools will be responsible for providing a substitute for Friday, Feb. 22. Educators will also receive one free teacher admission and a reduced price admission for students on the Isla Tours Laguna Madre Eco-Tour/Dolphin Watch.

Registration is required for the limited spaces available. To register or for more information, contact Brigette Goza, research assistant, CSL Educational Outreach Programs, at or 761-2644.
