20130223-Mission-Classic-Car-Show dy-061 featureSaturday turned out to be a beautiful day for the tenth annual Mission Classic Car Show at the Sports Park at Sharyland Plantation. Absent show founder Jim Schroeder for the first time since his passing last fall, the Schroeder family put together another great car show with lots of help from the Mission Paving staff, the City of Mission, Parks & Recreation, the chamber and volunteers.

With much emotion she could not suppress, Mindy Schroeder announced the recipient of the first Jim Schroeder award, in memory of her dad. This award for –Outstanding Mopar – was presented to Robert Anderson, of Donna, for his 1972 Dodge Challenger. Anderson’s Challenger also captured the Greg Cassity Award for Outstanding Muscle Car. Some cars received multiple awards since different judges made these special award selections.

Other memorial awards included the Jim Best Award for Outstanding Modified to William West of Alamo for his 1962 Chevy Bubble-top Belair, and Carl Johnson Award for Outstanding Ford to Joe Garcia, Edinburg, 1967 Ford Galaxie. John O’Conner’s 1954 Chevy 3100 pickup won the Manny Abrego Award for Best Custom.
