EDINBURG—U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector seized more than 6 tons of marijuana, with a value of more than $9.8 million, over March 8-10.
The largest seizure occurred at the Falfurrias Checkpoint on March 8 when a Border Patrol K-9 detected the presence of marijuana in a tractor-trailer during an immigration inspection. Upon further inspection, agents found more than 6,700 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the trailer.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
Agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station made another large seizure near Falcon Heights on March 10. The agents were responding to a report of suspicious activity when they found nearly 800 pounds of marijuana hidden under a plastic tarp on a vacant lot.
Several smaller seizures brought the total amount of marijuana seized from Friday through Sunday to more than 12,000 pounds.
