20110624_Winner_IMG_8334The Texas Press Association announced last weekend that the Progress Times has earned several awards in the 2011 Texas Better Newspaper Contest.

The Progress Times received second place in the medium-large weeklies division for Feature Photo, third place in Advertising Design, third in Sports Photo and third in Website Design. The awards were announced at the Texas Press Association Summer Convention held in Rockwall. The award-winning feature photo (above) by Progress Times Assistant Editor Edwina P. Garza, was published last June in with her feature story about local education and intervention efforts by the Valley AIDS Council. The sports photo entries were taken by Doug Young and the ad designs were created by Christy Johnson. The website – -- was redesigned last year by Sean Downey under the direction of General Manager Dan Brunson.
