Local schools closed Friday

20110201_WinterAll local school districts have closed their campuses and school offices for Friday, Feb. 4. Activities at all schools will resume back to normal on Monday, Feb. 7.

Mission CISD announces delay in school day start for February 3

MCISDlogoMission Consolidated Independent School District schools will start one hour late on Thursday, Feb. 3. Bus schedules will be adjusted accordingly. The end of the school day remains unchanged at this time. District officials will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and conditions.

FFA students win championships at RGV District stock show

20110120_FFA-Alyssa-CarreraMISSION — Several students from the Veterans Memorial FFA and Mission FFA chapters had projects that earned championship status at the recent RGV District FFA Livestock Show.

Alyssa Carrera, champion Brahman market steer; Zenaida Alaniz, champion junior hog showman; Daniel Hinojosa, champion breeding sheep; Olivia Garcia, reserve champion AOB market steer and Cristina Rios, reserve champion Yorkshire market hog were all contest winners from Veterans Memorial FFA.

MCISD changes start date for voluntary resignation initiative

MCISDlogoUpdate: After press time, MCISD officials said the start date for the resignation incentive plan had changed. Staff can begin volunteering for the program on Sunday, Feb. 6.

Troop 84 Scouts uphold Eagle rank tradition

20110128_EagleProjectContinuing a strong troop tradition, several members of Mission Boy Scout Troop 84 are earning their Eagle rank, Scouting’s highest rank.

Gavin De Leon and Gabriel Seigel are currently working on their Eagle projects, while Daniel Hinojosa, Derick Reyna and Aaron Tijerina are in the planning stages for theirs. Another member of Troop 84, Chris Martinez, has completed his Eagle project and only lacks submitting the paperwork and meeting with the Eagle board to complete his Eagle.
