Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) will hold a special ribbon cutting ceremony at Alton Elementary School on Wednesday, October 19, at 6:00 p.m. This brief ceremony will mark the completion of a major renovation project that has transformed the school over the last 14 months.
The completion of this 2008 bond issue project represents a major milestone for one of the oldest school campuses in the district. While the original building could not be saved, the additions to the school should serve the Alton area for many decades to come. The $5.3 million project replaced almost half the campus with new buildings and classrooms, while tying in several other existing buildings. The project also allowed for the school to have an enclosed campus for the first time.
After the ceremonial ribbon has been cut, light refreshments will be served and the campus will be open for visitors to tour.
