MISSION — Construction crews began a road maintenance project on Conway Avenue in the downtown area this week. Texas Department of Transportation officials said the work should take about two weeks to complete.
Engineer Juan Sustaita said the roadway would be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day until the work is complete. The stretch of work goes from Expressway 83 north to Griffin Parkway. Already, the group has resurfaced the roadways on the street south of the expressway.
“We’re working at night so we don’t disrupt businesses in the downtown area,” Sustaita said.
The resurfacing project calls for crews to remove nearly two inches of asphalt before replacing new paving.
The roadwork will also allow crews to create a second left turning lane at expressway underpasses.
