MISSION — Lovers of old cars, rev your engines and get ready for one of the biggest car shows in South Texas this weekend. The ninth annual Mission Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sports Park in The Grove at the Sharyland Plantation.
Mindy Schroeder, chairwoman of the show, said $5000 in cash and prizes will be given away to those who win the different categories.
First, second and third place will be awarded in all categories. Other prizes include Mayor’s Choice, Exhibitors’ Choice, Ladies’ Choice and Kids’ Choice. Additional prizes include Best Paint, Best Flames, Best Engine Compartment, Best Interior, Long Distance Travel, Outstanding Truck, Outstanding Foreign Car and Most Unique.
Judging of vehicles will be ongoing during the day after setup, which starts at 9 a.m. Cars must be in place by noon to qualify for prizes. Winners will be announced at the end of the show at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Five categories of cars will be judged. The first is the classic car, which is defined as any auto or truck over 1976 that is in original or restored to original condition and specifications.
The second category includes hot rod/custom vehicles that are dated between 1949 and 1976, but have modifications to drive train, body, suspension, interior, paint or wheels. Modifications include graphics, special paint, flames and pinstriping.
Category three is for street rod/custom vehicles dated 1949 or older with modifications to drive train, suspension, interior, paint or wheels. It also includes graphics, special paint, flames and pinstriping.
Category four, the muscle car division, includes automobiles between 1964 and 1975 that are factory high performance American cars in original or restored to original condition and specifications.
Category five is specialty cars, from 1976 or older. They are any survivor car, one-of-a-kind cars, concept cars and kit cars.
Admission is free to this all day event.
