MISSION — Filomena Leo, who served as superintendent for La Joya Independent School District several years ago, was named as the Sharyland Independent School Distirct’s new interim superintendent at a special meeting last week.
Leo will serve as interim superintendent until the school board hires a new superintendent.
In the meantime, the board is still looking at prospective consultants to hire to help with the search to replace Superintendent Scott Owings who resigned weeks ago.
In discussion matters, the board discussed the City of McAllen’s prospective 6 ½ Mile Line Road that would run from Ware to Los Ebanos Road. The road would run through the new high school’s property, officials said.
Jesse Muñiz, superintendent of business operations and finance, was bringing the information to the board to let them know what is being presented to McAllen’s P&Z.
McAllen’s P&Z has an alternative route for the road that would go at an angle around Bentsen Road, then connect to 6 ¼ Mile Line, where the front entrance of the new high school is planned. The road is also where the engineer’s have been planning for a street light.
Trustee Fred Ramirez said this was information the board should have known before buying the land, but agreed the road needed to be done.
The routes will be discussed at McAllen P&Z’s next meeting on March 26. The McAllen City Council will make a decision on the issue soon after.
In other action items, the board hired Ron Adame as the new high school football coach after a lengthy executive session.
He has been with SISD for 16 years and was recently the offensive coordinator.blog comments powered by Disqus
