20110120_FFA-Alyssa-CarreraMISSION — Several students from the Veterans Memorial FFA and Mission FFA chapters had projects that earned championship status at the recent RGV District FFA Livestock Show.

Alyssa Carrera, champion Brahman market steer; Zenaida Alaniz, champion junior hog showman; Daniel Hinojosa, champion breeding sheep; Olivia Garcia, reserve champion AOB market steer and Cristina Rios, reserve champion Yorkshire market hog were all contest winners from Veterans Memorial FFA.

Show champions from the Mission FFA Chapter were J.C. Martinez, reserve grand champion goat, and reserve grand champion lamb; and Dulce Alvarez, champion south down lamb.

Other top finishers from the Veterans Memorial FFA in the market steer division included: Oscar Cordova, second place; Jordan Guerra, second place; Vanessa Pena, third place; Rolando Moreno, third place; and Orlando Farias, fourth place.

In the market hog division: Matthew Borrego, second place; Christopher Martinez, second place; Valerie Escamilla, second place; Taylor Campos, second place; Bianca Jasso, second place; David Bazan, second place and Devin Stiers, third place.

In the market goat division: Brittany Garza, third place; Johnny Martinez, third place; Bethany Garza, third in showmanship.

In the market lamb division: Taylor Campos, first place; Alyssa Carrera, second place, second in showmanship; Mathew Gonzalez, third place; Daniel Hinojosa, fourth place; Roy Guerrero, third in showmanship; and Zenaida Alaniz, second in showmanship.

In breeding gilt division: Bella Alaniz, third place, third in showmanship.

In breeding cattle division: Giselle Gonzalez, first place Brahman bull and Jordan Guerra, third place Brahman heifer.

Top finishers from the Mission FFA in the lamb division included: Christian Quintero, second place, medium wool lamb; Vanessa Calderon, third place, medium wool lamb; Jacob Solis, third place, medium wool lamb; and Jennifer Quintero, fourth place, fine wool lamb.

In the steers division: Jesus Fuentes, second place, Simbrah steer; Manuel Alvarado, third place Santa Gertrudis steer.

Christian Quintero placed first with a Brahman Bull.
