MISSION — The eighth annual Mission Classic Car Show will be held Saturday, Feb. 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mission Sports Park located in The Grove at Sharyland Plantation. Admission is free and registration is free for show participants.
Set up and sign-in for exhibitors begin at 9 a.m. and cars must be in place by noon to be eligible for $5,000 in cash and prizes, said Mindy Schroeder, show coordinator.
Over 25 prizes and awards will be given away. First, second and third place will be awarded in each category. With over $5,000 in prizes to be awarded, more cars are being attracted to the competition. Each year, the show draws classic cars from several states. An estimated 10,000 to 15,000 people attended last year’s show, which exhibited over 250 old cars.
The classic cars and trucks will be divided into five categories: Classic, Hot Rod/Custom, Street Rod/Custom, Muscle Car and Specialty Class.
The show is a hometown, home grown show, not a national competition show. Vehicles will be judged on condition and presentation.
Vehicles must be 1976 or older. A classic is any 1976 or older auto/truck in original or restored to original condition and specifications.
A hot rod/custom vehicle is dated 1949 to 1976 with modifications to drive train, body, suspension, interior, paint or wheels. Includes graphics, special paint, flames and pinstriping.
Street Rod/Custom vehicles are dated 1948 or older with modification to drive train, body, suspension, interior, paint or wheels. Includes graphics, special paint, flames and pinstriping.
Muscle Cars are automobiles from 1964-1976 and includes any factory, high performance, American car in original or restored to original condition and specifications.
Specialty class vehicles are 1976 or older and include any survivor car, one-of-a kind car, concept car, or kit car.
This show has grown rapidly to become one of the largest car shows in South Texas. Mission Sports Park is located at The Grove at Sharyland Plantation, 3930 Plantation Grove Blvd., in Mission, 2.2 miles south of Expressway 83 on Shary Road.
