MISSION – At least six have been arrested and charged after an early Monday morning burglary. A total of 25 firearms were stolen when individuals broke into Southwest Hay and Feed located at 703 W. 2 Mile Line. One firearm was an assault rifle.

As of Tuesday night, Mission Police Department had six men in custody in connection with the burglary of Southwest Hay & Feed. Investigators also recovered 13 of the handguns, the assault rifle, drugs and a minivan involved in the burglary.

Mission Police Chief Martin Garza said MPD is continuing the investigation and looking for the remaining weapons. Some of the individuals in custody were not part of the burglary but did have possession of the firearms, said Garza. All the suspects believed to be involved in the burglary have been arrested.

Investigators have been able to search several locations and follow up on calls that have come through the Crime Stoppers hotline. One call was received by a mother of one of the suspects. Another tip led officers to a home in Donna where one arrest, the minivan and some weapons were found.

Garza said the recovery of the weapons is priority before they can be used in other crimes. Anyone that has purchased a handgun this week is asked to be cautious and call MPD if they think it could be one of the stolen handguns still missing, added Garza.

There is no motive and the suspects have no known gang affiliation, said Garza. The group is known to be friends and regularly hang out in northwest Mission.

The suspects have not been formally charged, but Garza said expected charges include possession of a stolen weapon and burglary. An arraignment was planned during press time.

The investigation is still ongoing until all weapons are recovered. FBI and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) are also involved with the investigation because of the stolen guns.
