MEDAlogo_TNMission Economic Development Authority (MEDA) will meet Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 5:30 p.m. to again discuss the Mission City Council’s order to dissolve MEDA and move its operations under the direction of MEDC (Mission Economic Development Corporation).

MEDA President/CEO Pat Townsend Jr. has intimated that the proposed changes require careful planning and cannot be done overnight, due to ongoing commitments of MEDA, a private corporation that has been the lead entity in actively pursuing economic development activities on behalf of the City of Mission for over 20 years.

Also on Wednesday’s agenda is an item under executive session that reads “hear complaints against personnel President/CEO position.” Townsend said he put the personnel item on the agenda himself because he felt it was appropriate for the board to discuss the role of the president/CEO in the city’s push to dissolve MEDA.

The agenda also includes items related to the Military Parkway project bid awarded at the last meeting.

MEDA is also seeking to retain its own legal counsel to represent the interests and obligations of MEDA and its board members. Previously, Mission City Attorney David Guerra served as legal counsel for MEDA, but Townsend said he anticipates issues will arise that will pose a conflict of interest for the attorney to represent both parties as legal steps are taken to dissolve MEDA.
