ALTON—The Christmas Parade for the City of Alton is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. Citizens will be able to enjoy performances, treats and gifts from Santa Claus.
Assistant City Manager Steve Peña explained it would be a fun morning for all involved. The parade starts on Los Ebanos Road and turns east onto Mile 5 Road, where it will then hit Alton Boulevard and trickle into the Recreation Center located on West Dawes Avenue.
The parade will kick off the event, but will lead into a Christmas celebration.
“Everyone gets a bag full of goodies and can walk through stations we will have set up by local vendors,” Peña said. “We will also have a toy give away and bike drawing.”
The event has scheduled performances from the La Joya Jr. High Band and the Mission Jr. High Band. Peña added, attendees would also be able to enjoy hot dogs, tamales and sodas.
“We will have vendors who will also be giving away bags with trinkets, pencils and pens,” Peña said. “We are also going to have Santa Claus help us with giving away gifts.
The gifts for the event are separated into three age groups pre-toddlers, toddlers and elementary. The age limit on the issued gifts will be 10 years old.
Bleachers have been set up for the event; it is recommended attendees find an area at 8:30 a.m. before the parade starts.
