The deadline to register for entering the annual Mission Quilt Show is Saturday, Jan. 5. The show will be held at the Mission Historical Museum Annex, located at 200 E. Tom Landry. Show dates are Jan. 12 through Feb. 9.
Entries for this year’s show will be accepted in six categories:
- Hand-quilted bed quilts
- Machine-quilted bed quilts
- Mixed media
- Wall hangings
- Wearable art
- Miscellaneous – other items such as table settings
Entries must be display-ready. Bed quilts and wall hangings must have a hanging sleeve. Items an their containers must be identified with the owner’s name. Only one item per person may be entered. Items that have been shown at the Museum within the past five years are ineligible for the competition.
Entries must be delivered to Vernon Weckbacher, museum archivist/curator, by the Jan. 5 deadline at the main museum located at 900 Doherty, Mission.
Entries are also being accepted for a special Turning of the Quilts program, which will present antique and heirloom quilts. The Turning of the Quilts will take place during the awards ceremony on Feb. 1. Deadline for these entries is Jan. 25.
Mission Historical Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed Sunday and Monday. Admission is free. For information call (956) 580-8646.
