The mother told Mission police the last time Aaron was seen was Dec. 6, behind their house located on the 2000 block of Washington.
According to authorities, the family said after an argument with his parents he left the residence, walking toward an irrigation canal. Police have searched the area for any signs that Garcia may have fallen into the canal. Family told police that Garcia did not know how to swim.
Late last week, authorities spoke with officials from United Irrigation District and the Mission Fire Department dive team as they considered searching the canal.
An acquaintance has also told police that she recently saw Garcia. The acquaintance said she saw Garcia at a posada in Hidalgo on Dec. 18. Authorities are trying to corroborate the story by talking to others that may have been at the location.
As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities were planning to drain a section of the canal at Los Ebanos and Griffin Parkway to conduct a search on Sunday. Mission Police Chief Martin Garza said they must continue their efforts to find Garcia.
Mike Warshak, general manager with the United Irrigation District, said they would play a small part in helping Mission Police with the search of Garcia. He also said the cost will be minimal and it is a responsibility they have to help out in any way they can to find the missing teen.
Warshak said they would be bringing in some dirt to set up cofferdams on the north and south sides of the canal, setting up a certain section of the canal to drain. Mission Fire Department will come in and pump the water out of the canal and part of the canal that goes below FM 495.
For the past three months, Garcia had been staying at a friend’s house near his parents’ home. Garcia has left home before, but only for days at a time.
He was last seen wearing white shorts and a grey T-shirt.
Garcia is also wanted by juvenile probation for graffiti, said Garza. He said this might be a reason Garcia has not returned home.
Garza said their first concern is bringing him home to his parents.
The Mission Police Department is asking for help in locating Garcia. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Aaron please call the Mission Crime Stoppers at 581-8477.blog comments powered by Disqus
