MISSION—Mission Consolidated Independent School District will hold a dedication ceremony tomorrow at 10 a.m., renaming of the district’s ag farm in honor of longtime agricultural sciences teacher Joe Correa. The new name for the farm is the Jose “Joe” Correa, Jr. Agriculture Science Lab.
The facility is located behind the MCISD Central Kitchen at 1201 W. Griffin Parkway.
Students have joined together to create a sign with the new name for the building, through the welding program.
Correa was born and raised in San Perlita, he earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1958 from what was then known as Texas College of Arts and Industries located in Kingsville. The teacher also earned his master’s degree in education from Texas College of Arts and Industries in 1966.
In 1966, Correa joined the Mission school district and spent 32 years teaching at the Mission High School before he retired in 1997. Correa was also very involved in the community; he participated in the Mission Lions Club, where he served as club president and as district governor. He was also very involved with the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas Citrus Fiesta and Teachers Federal Credit Union.
Correa participated as president of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas and the Texas Examination of Current Administrators and Teachers advisory committee, and in 1981 he was recognized as Man of the Year in Mission.
