The City of Mission will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony Wednesday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. for the new Police Substation and Fire Station No. 5 located at the corner of Glasscock and Military Rd.
The ribbon cutting had originally been planned a week earlier, but was rescheduled, according to Deputy City Manager Aida Lerma. The facility, located at 2801 E. Military Rd., is intended to serve the city’s south side. The Mission Police Department substation and the Mission Fire Department’s Station No. 5 is a 24-hour facility with the staff available to service residents just like the main police station and other fire stations.
The cost to construct both buildings was approximately $2.2 million.
City leaders said the growth of the area, which includes a number of housing developments, an elementary school and the Anzalduas International Bridge, make the establishment of a substation crucial to the safety of Mission residents.
