Historically a popular site for family gatherings, Anzalduas Park is still in the process of reconstruction of facilities and ongoing repairs due to damages sustained by heavy flooding last year.
Last summer, Hurricane Alex, Tropical Storm Hermine and the related rising Rio Grande submerged most of the park underwater for over a month. As a result, the park sustained considerable damages to its buildings and amenities.
Since then, Precinct 3 Commissioner Joe M. Flores, employees and contractors have been working to remediate the damages and restore the park to its former state.
“The park’s closing has been an unfortunate outcome of the unprecedented weather we experienced last year,” said Flores. “We thank all residents for their patience as we work to bring the park back up to standard, and we wish everyone a joyous Easter celebration.”
Repairs are expected to continue over the next three to six months. This is the first year that Anzalduas Park will be closed over the Easter holiday.
Residents are encouraged to seek alternate locations to celebrate the holiday, such as Delta Lake Park in Precinct 1.
