Six Mission citizens to be honored at annual MHM banquet

20130830 MHMThe Mission Historical Museum is in the final stages of preparation for their seventh annual fundraising banquet where six citizens of Mission will be added to the “Wall of Fame.” This is the museum’s annual major fundraiser, benefitting the museum’s education programs, exhibits and landscape maintenance.

The event is set for Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Mission Community Center from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., followed by the program, presentations, and a silent auction featuring high-ticket items.

Each year new inductees are honored and added to the “Wall of Fame,” a permanent exhibit showcasing individuals who have significantly contributed to the history of Mission. This year’s recipients are Nancy Shary Cheever, Romulo D. Martinez, Maria Lydia Rodriguez, Joe Roseland and Gustavo and Rosa Zapata.

A committee from the museum membership makes the selections each year.

The individuals honored have lived, worked or owned a business in Mission for 30 years or more. They are recognized for their leadership, accomplishments, dedication and contributions to the “history of Mission.”

In addition to the funds raised from the silent auction, there are three sponsorship levels: Platinum, $2500; Gold, $1,000; and Silver, $500, with special benefits to the sponsor. Sponsorships are still open. Donations for silent auction items will be accepted through Sept. 6.

Individual tickets and table reservations are available. Price for a reserved table for 10 guests is $400 for members and $500 for non-members. Price for open seating, individual tickets is $25 for museum members and $35 for non-members.

For more information on auction donations, sponsorships, table reservations and tickets, contact Linda Castaneda at the museum office at 580-8646. Museum office hours are regular, weekday business hours.

The Mission Historical Museum is a non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible.
