MHS band advances to area competitions with VMHS

20131101 MHS-pigskin-pictureMISSION—The Mission High School Eagle Marching Band earned a Division 1 rating at the 71st Annual Pigskin Jubilee marching competition, a feat that has not been reached in over 11 years.

The band has had a stream of successful performances in competitions leading up the to the Pigskin Jubilee, including a Division 1 rating at the City of Palms Festival in McAllen. The Eagle Band’s color guard also won best 4A color guard at a competition in San Benito.

The Eagle Marching Band along with the Veterans Memorial High School Patriot Marching Band received Division 1 ratings; the last time the Patriot Marching Band received a Division 1 rating was three years ago.

Both marching bands advanced to the area round of competitions at the Wildcat Stadium in Calallen. The Eagle marching band placed in the top 10 bands at the area level.

This is the first time both Mission CISD marching bands have advanced to the area round of competitions. This will also be the third time at the area round for the Patriot Band in 10 years.

Band officials said one of the most touching parts of the Pigskin Jubilee came after the results were announced and the program was officially finished. Band officials said the students from the MHS and VMHS bands came together in an impromptu celebration of their accomplishments.
