More than a month after a 28-year-year old man was shot and killed, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office released a statement asking for help solving the case.
“Investigators have developed several theories, but have no solid leads or evidence to support their validity,” a news release from the county states.
Eleazar Padilla Jr., 28, was shot Nov. 2 in the 5300 block of Coyote Circle, outside of Mission. He was taken to McAllen Regional Hospital, which called in law enforcement. On Nov. 14, Padilla died from his injuries.
Sheriff’s investigators are looking for a 2008 white Chevy Cobalt in connection to the case. They believe there were three assailants, one armed with an AK-47, the news release states.
Through the investigation, the sheriff’s office stated it was revealed Padilla had participated in a drug deal with unknown people. However, the release states that his alleged involvement does not factor into the county’s goal of solving the crime.
“The insularity and secrecy of drug dealing makes these types of cases difficult to solve,” the release states. “We at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office understand the frustration of the victim’s family in the lack of investigative progress.”
