pt-square logoSeveral local elections are on the way, and that means it’s time for voters to choose the direction of the communities in which they live.

We at Progress Times want to know the concerns and questions citizens want addressed as we prepare for Election Day, May 10.

Seats on both the Mission Consolidated Independent School District and Sharyland ISD are both up for election, and they all have competition.

Members of area school boards make decisions that affect everyday life of community members.

They choose the superintendent, who turns around and leads the school district. They decide where the district will put its resources and which programs to fund. Schools becoming overcrowded? School board trustees oversee the construction of new facilities.

There currently are several big projects underway in both Mission and Sharyland schools, such as renovations of Mission High School, construction of a new Sharyland High and educational reforms at all the districts.

Our job is to keep you informed. It’s your job as residents to act, to have a voice in what happens in your community.

Please email your questions and concerns to Julie@progresstimes.net by April 3. You can also drop by the Progress Times office, 1217 N. Conway Ave., and drop off a note in person.
