20140822 Patricia-OCana-OlivarezAfter accepting the resignation of school board President Sonia Trevino last Wednesday, the Mission CISD board of trustees elected new board officers. Patricia O’cana-Olivarez was named board president, Patty Bazaldua, vice president, and J.C. Avila, secretary.

In addition, Veronica Rodriguez-Mendoza was appointed to fill the board vacancy created by Trevino’s resignation. Mendoza was immediately sworn in and took her place on the board.

Trevino stepped down from the board so her sister, Leticia Ybarra, could be hired by the district in a newly-created position as Coordinator for Physical Education and Health. Following the reorganization of the board, Ybarra was approved for the new position in a 7-0 vote.
