OBIT-Eliborio Borrego

MISSION - Eliborio "Big Eli" Borrego, 61, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at McAllen Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Magdalena of Mission; children, Eli James Borrego of Mission and Anna Sarai Uresti of McAllen; sister, Ida Avila of Palm Springs, Calif.; and brother, Adan Borrego of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eliborio and Venancia Borrego, and a brother, Rolando Borrego.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at Templo Calvario in McAllen at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at La Piedad Cemetery in McAllen.

OBIT-Dr. Lauro G. Guerra

McALLEN - Dr. Lauro G. Guerra passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012.

Dr. Guerra was born in Mission in 1926 to Manuel and Lavinia Guerra. He attended Mission High School where he played football on a championship Mission Eagle team. One week after graduation in June 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy, served as a gunner's mate on an escort carrier and saw wartime action in the Pacific.
