OBIT: Clara Jean Killam Bodine

ALEDO – Clara Jean Killam Bodine, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012.

Mrs. Bodine was born in 1924 near Eola in Tom Green County to Jesse Jewel and Sarah Viola Killam. In 1939 she graduated from Eola High School as valedictorian and went on to study home economics at Texas Tech University.

She married Harmon M. Bodine on July 5, 1941. They lived in Mission for 52 years and then moved to Aledo for the last 13 years. She was a 56-year member of the P.E.O. sisterhood and served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Suter of Mission, Joani Youngblood of Fort Worth and Jill Birdwell of Aledo; and eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

A funeral service was held June 15 at Faith Presbyterian Church in Aledo. A graveside service was held June 17 at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.

Pallbearers were Bobby Yancy, Justin Yancy, Lt. Col. Bo Birdwell, Warrie Birdwell, Michael McMahon, Carl Roland and Monty Youngblood.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial contributions be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, 310 Bailey Ranch Road, Aledo, TX 76008, or the charity of one’s choice.

OBIT: William A. Devine

MISSION - William "Bill" A. Devine, 85, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Devine in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Birmingham. He was a decorated war veteran and received the Purple Heart and was involved in 11 major engagements in the South Pacific.

Mr. Devine owned a mechanic shop for 20 years in Mission. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 1402.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, a brother and six children by a previous marriage.

Visitation will be held at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 19, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home at 1 p.m. A burial with full military honors follows at 2 p.m. at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.

OBIT: Irma Garza

PENITAS - Irma Garza, 81, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Doctors Hospital in Edinburg.

She was born to Emelia Reyna and Ramon Reyna on August 28, 1930, in Havana.

She is survived by her daughters, Ana M. Garza and Noemi Cantu; a sister, Amelia Gonzalez; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in La Joya. Burial follows at Havana Cemetery.

MISSION - Juan Reynol Garza Sr., 54, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, in Dallas. A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Penitas. Burial follows at Lord and I Cemetery in Palmview.

MISSION – Three-month-old Leroy Muñiz Jr. died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Mission Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at Lord & I Cemetery in Palmview.

SULLIVAN CITY – Gabino Uresti, 30, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his Sullivan City residence.

OBIT: Tomas Cavazos Jr.

Tomas Cavazos Jr., 70, a resident of Merced, Calif. passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

Mr. Cavazos was born in Mission to Tomas and Modesta Cavazos. He attended local schools and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Pan American. He taught school at the elementary and high school levels. He worked for the Better Business Bureau and also served as the administrator for the Farmers Market. He married Lidia Trejo on September 9, 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Lidia Cavazos; daughters, Monica Brushia and Lisa Marie Cavazos; brothers, Jose and Emilio Cavazos; sisters, Manuela and Janie Cavazos; and three grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; maternal grandmother, Maria Cavazos DeLeon; and paternal grandparents, Atanacio Cavazos and Concepcion Zavaleta Cavazos.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 11, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission, Texas.

The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Catholic Cemetery in Mission.
