DEATH NOTICE-Celedonia Segundo

Celedonia Segundo, 102, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at her Mission residence. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Rivera Funeral Home in Mission. Burial follows at Lord and I Cemetery in Palmview.



MISSION - Julio Vela, 80, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in McAllen.


OBIT-Manuel Alvarez

MISSION - Manuel "Meme" Alvarez, 68, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Comfort House in McAllen.

Raised in Mission, he later joined the U.S. Army, where he served in the Airborne division. He worked for 35 years in the United States Postal Service, having retired as postmaster of the Mission post office.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Janie Alvarez of Mission; children, Missy Alvarez and Mandy Solis of Mission; brother Joe Alvarez of San Antonio; sisters Raquel McKown of Dallas, Idolina Gonzalez of Mission, Bea Rodriguez of Mission, Yolanda Ureste of Pharr; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Luisa Alvarez; brothers, Chano, Marcos, Santos and Leonel; and sister, Lydia Olivarez.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
