McALLEN - Maria Zarate, 84, died Friday, June 29, 2012, in McAllen. She was born to Platon Ramiro and Natividad Lira on May 4, 1928, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

She is survived by a son, Jose Martin (Criselia) Zarate of Mission; daughters, Nora Nelida (John) Green of Houston and Alma Enriquez of McAllen; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Zarate Jr.

MISSION - Roy Alberto Garcia, 56, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 29, 2012, in Mission, TX. Born on July 4, 1956, in Mission, TX, to Antonio Garcia and Alicia Avila Garcia.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Magdalena ‘Maggie’ Garcia; son, Roy Adan Garcia; daughter, Denise Garcia; Alexis Nicole Garcia, Elize Joshua Garcia, Kimberly Nadine Alaniz, Kevin Joe Alaniz; brothers, Antonio Garcia Jr. (Francisca), Sly Fox Garcia, Lloyd Garcia, Jerome Garcia (Donna), Joseph Raymond Garcia (Manivahn) Ruben Garcia (Mary); sisters, Anid Carreon (Ramon), Sandra Razo (Juan), Anna Saenz (Atilano); and four grandchildren.

OBIT-Jose Refugio Marquez

MISSION – Jose Refugio Marquez died June 29, 2012. He was born to Encarnacion and Ester Marquez in Zacatecaz, Mexico on July 31, 1921.

He left a great legacy for his children and taught some great lessons and values through pure example. He left the best example of what a loving father should be, of sacrifice, hard work, honesty and integrity, humility, forgiveness, and what was most important to him, about testifying of God’s love and His plan, and about preaching His word to everyone around. He was an excellent and loving father and will forever be remembered.

MISSION - Miguel "Mike" Angel Barrera, 50, born September 15, 1961, passed away June 24, 2012. He was the son of Minerva Barrera of Alton and Juan Barrera of McAllen.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Juan Jose Barrera and his grandparents Antonio Rodriguez, Anita Trevino Rodriguez, Pablo Barrera and Concepcion Ybarra de Barrera.

MISSION - Edelmira Bourbois, 75, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012 at her residence in Mission. She was born to Pablo Flores and Aurora Gracia on September 29, 1936 in Diaz Ordaz.

She is survived by her loving husband, Agustine R. Bourbois and children, Aurora (Manuel) Balderas, Belen Tello, both of Mission and Ulysses (Ester) Flores of San Antonio; siblings, Luz (Adela) Flores of Mission and Celia Mendiola of McAllen; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A viewing is being held today until 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Virgil Wilson Memorial Chapel in Mission. A chapel service will be held Friday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at Virgil Wilson Memorial Chapel in Mission. Interment will follow at Garden of Angels Cemetery in Abram. McALLEN - Geneva Hartford Huston Taylor, 80, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Aurora House in Weslaco.

Mrs. Taylor was born on September 8, 1931, to Eunice Hartford and Allen Hartford of Mission. She retired from McAllen ISD in 1993 after 25 years of service. Following her retirement she was a member of La Revista Book Club, Retired Teacher of McAllen, International Museum of Art and Science, and the Arroyo Group.

MISSION – Tilmon Eugene “T.E.” Sharp, 76, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.

Mr. Sharp retired from Occidental Petroleum after a lifetime in the oilfield. As a horseman, he was a life member and past captain of the Hidalgo County Sheriff Posse as well as co-founder of the Hidalgo County Team Penning Association.
