MISSION - Manuel "Meme" Alvarez, 68, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Comfort House in McAllen.
Raised in Mission, he later joined the U.S. Army, where he served in the Airborne division. He worked for 35 years in the United States Postal Service, having retired as postmaster of the Mission post office.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Janie Alvarez of Mission; children, Missy Alvarez and Mandy Solis of Mission; brother Joe Alvarez of San Antonio; sisters Raquel McKown of Dallas, Idolina Gonzalez of Mission, Bea Rodriguez of Mission, Yolanda Ureste of Pharr; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Luisa Alvarez; brothers, Chano, Marcos, Santos and Leonel; and sister, Lydia Olivarez.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
ALTON - Orlando Longoria, 36, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.
MISSION – A funeral service for Kevin Andrew was held Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Faith Fellowship Bible Church in Peñitas. Burial followed at Garden of Angels Cemetery in Abram.

MISSION - Paulina Larissa Garza Marin, one month old, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Women's Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
MISSION – A funeral service for Jesus Peña will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Rivera Funeral Home in Mission. Burial will follow at Lord & I Cemetery in Palmview.
MISSION - Wayne Rumbaugh, 78, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Mission Regional Medical Center.
