OBIT-Julio Cesar Lacayo Huesca

MISSION - Julio Cesar Lacayo Huesca, 20, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012. He was born July 4, 1991.

Survivors include his father, Ronaldo Lacayo; mother, Lyzette Huesca-Lacayo; sisters, Paulina and Priscilla; paternal grandparents, Benjamin, Graciela and Yolanda; maternal grandparents, Dr. Juan Huesca Perez and Alicia.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. The funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Cremation will follow.

OBIT-Francisco Hernandez

MISSION - Francisco "Chico" Hernandez, 85, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012, at Mission Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hernandez was a longtime employee of the Mission CISD. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Alaska.

Survivors include his children Mario Hernandez, Diana Hernandez, San Juanita Murillo, Leticia Garcia, Adriana Garcia, Elia Mendoza, Veronica Davis, Francisco Hernandez Jr., Gilda Solis; a brother, Carlos Hernandez; and 24 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 62 years, Elva Hernandez, and his parents, Pedro and Maria Hernandez.

The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.

OBIT-Gregorio Guerra

ALTON - Gregorio Guerra, 46, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Mission Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Guerra Gonzalez, and his brother, Luis Carlos Guerra.

Survivors include his daughters Melissa Guerra, Sofia Angelica Guerra and Blanca Esthela Guerra; mother, Virginia Guerra; and siblings, Teresa de Jesus Flores, Blanca Esthela Guerra, Juan Manuel Guerra, Maria Elena Guerrero and Maria del Rosario Hernandez.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 26, at Rivera Funeral Home from 1 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Alton. Interment follows at Lord & I Cemetery in Palmview.

MISSION - Reynaldo Garcia Sr., 83, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012, in Mission.

He is survived by his children, Norma L. Mirelez, Anna Y. Garcia and Reynaldo Garcia Jr., all from Mission; sister, Guadalupe Salinas; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma V. Garcia, and a brother, Francisco J. Garcia.

The funeral mass was held June 25 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial followed at Valley Memorial Gardens.

ALTON - Amelia Contreras, 71, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012 at her home in Alton.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roman and Consuelo Contreras.

Survivors include her sisters Guadalupe Sanchez, Estela Garcia, Olivia Nevarez, Luisa Flores, Soledad Serfino and Candelaria Gonzalez, and brothers Ricardo, Rodolfo, David & Rogelio Contreras.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will follow at Jardin de Los Angeles on S. Abram Rd. in Penitas.

OBIT: Blaine H. Holcomb

McALLEN - Blaine H. Holcomb was born August 13, 1919 in Malvern, Arkansas and died Monday, June 18, 2012.

He married Andree Meserole on July 22, 1939 in San Antonio. There were married for 66 years until her death on June 9, 2006. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII they moved to the Mission-McAllen area in 1946 for him to manage the Shary-Shivers family interests, which he did for more than 62 years. He was a certified public accountant actively involved in citrus, banking, civic and professional organizations.

OBIT: Clara Jean Killam Bodine

ALEDO – Clara Jean Killam Bodine, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012.

Mrs. Bodine was born in 1924 near Eola in Tom Green County to Jesse Jewel and Sarah Viola Killam. In 1939 she graduated from Eola High School as valedictorian and went on to study home economics at Texas Tech University.

She married Harmon M. Bodine on July 5, 1941. They lived in Mission for 52 years and then moved to Aledo for the last 13 years. She was a 56-year member of the P.E.O. sisterhood and served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Suter of Mission, Joani Youngblood of Fort Worth and Jill Birdwell of Aledo; and eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

A funeral service was held June 15 at Faith Presbyterian Church in Aledo. A graveside service was held June 17 at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.

Pallbearers were Bobby Yancy, Justin Yancy, Lt. Col. Bo Birdwell, Warrie Birdwell, Michael McMahon, Carl Roland and Monty Youngblood.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial contributions be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, 310 Bailey Ranch Road, Aledo, TX 76008, or the charity of one’s choice.
